Learning To Trust The Process

It’s only been a week now, and I’ve asked myself why I’m doing Daily December almost everyday. Why am I spending time writing? Shouldn’t I just be coding?

But then I remember to just trust the process and I’m able to fight off the resistance for a little bit longer.

The plan is to keep writing about whatever interest me. I think Austin Kleon said it best in his book Show Your Work! “… the only way to find your voice is to use it. It’s hardwired, built into you. Talk about the things you love. Your voice will follow.”

So I’m learning to trust the process. Believing that small daily changes snowball into big results. It doesn’t happen overnight but in five years I’ll be closer to my goals.

“The professional steels himself at the start of a project, reminding himself it is the Iditarod, not the sixty-yard dash.  He conserves his energy.  He prepares his mind for the long haul.  He sustains himself with the knowledge that if he can just keep those huskies mushing, sooner or later the sled will pull into the Nome.”

— Steven Pressfield, The War of Art

I don’t know anything about dog sledding but the quote above feels right.

Can you name one top performer in their field that hasn’t put in the work? I haven’t found one yet.
